About Wealthy Handyman

I learned this business the hard way.

My name is Bob. I have spent more than 40 years around the handyman trade, the customers, the callbacks, the estimates, the good jobs, the bad jobs, and the numbers most owners do not look at until it is too late.

Wealthy Handyman exists because being good with tools is not enough. A handyman can be skilled, honest, busy, and still end up underpaid if the business behind the craft is broken.

Where I come from

I come from the field, not the conference room.

I know the pressure of answering the phone, looking at a job, trying to price it fast, keeping customers happy, collecting money, managing tools and materials, and still trying to have a life when the day is over.

I have watched too many good tradesmen confuse a full calendar with a healthy business. The work can look successful from the outside while the owner is quietly eating the cost of bad pricing, free materials, lost time, and weak systems.

Why now

The trade needs better business tools.

Most handyman advice is either too vague to use or written by people who have never had to stand in a customer's kitchen and defend a price.

Most software is not much better. It organizes the chaos, but it does not teach the owner how to price, sell, schedule, track, and grow with discipline.

The point

Wealthy Handyman is about making the business finally make sense.

This site is where I am putting the lessons, calculators, scripts, and systems that help a handyman owner stop guessing and start operating from real numbers.

The labor rate calculator is the first step because pricing touches everything. If your rate is wrong, your schedule, your estimates, your hires, your stress level, and your profit are all built on a bad foundation.

  • Charge enough to pay yourself like an owner, not just an employee.
  • Know your overhead before the customer asks for a discount.
  • Stop giving away truck stock, callbacks, drive time, and admin time.
  • Build systems that make the business less dependent on memory and hustle.

My bias

I believe the owner has to get paid first in the math.

If the business only works when the owner is underpaid, the business does not work yet. That is not a moral failure. It is a math problem and a systems problem.

A handyman business should not just keep you busy. It should pay you, protect your time, and create something worth owning.

That is why I am building Wealthy Handyman and HandymanPro together: one teaches the thinking, the other gives the owner a system to run it.

What you can expect here

Plain talk about pricing, profit, customers, estimates, callbacks, labor, software, and the decisions that separate a busy handyman from a wealthy one.

What I am not here to do

I am not here to sell fantasy. The goal is not magic internet money. The goal is a real business that pays the owner properly and serves customers well.
